Our Story
Our story began almost two years ago. Truly a chance encounter, our story has made believers out of us both. It is truly frightening for us both to contemplate how close we came to missing each other entirely. But true love has a way of working it’s magic!
Although commonplace today, our story of finding each other on the internet is far from ordinary. Leah had meant to cancel her subscription to the service the month before, but through a billing error wound up online for an extra month. Dan was hesitant to join the online scene, but encouraged by friends and colleagues. Dan’s first email greeting was to Leah, and her response was also his first. Had he joined two weeks later, or had her cancellation gone through on time, they would have never met.
After two weeks of email correspondence, Leah and Dan decided to meet for coffee one Sunday…. April 1, 2007, to be exact. We like to say we met on March 32nd, to avoid the obvious comments! We talked for almost five hours about any- and everything. We also decided early on that Bob Chin’s would not be our first official date, as we are both seafood-phobic! We both left our first date hopeful, and could not wait to be together again.
In our first few months we traveled together to Wisconsin, California, and New York. We enjoyed theater, fine dining, and the museums and attractions for which Chicago is known.
Dan proposed at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, one of our favorite places to visit. It was a beautiful fall day, and an even more beautiful sunset, which is when Dan got on his knee under a maple tree just beginning to turn brilliant orange. Of course, Leah said “yes” immediately!
We now live together in Deerfield, Illinois, and are eagerly awaiting our wedding in Maui in July, followed soon after by the family we plan to raise together.
